Samantha Tolson sits backstage at BAY5 Square, a large G-1 banner behind her, a table in front of her with a similar covering, and a microphone on the table for her as well. She's dressed in a simple #TeamSuplex shirt and a pair of Nike basketball short, with Nike sandals on her feet.
Samantha: I apologize for my lack of more formal attire, but I do have a match to prepare for after we're done here, so I hope that you forgive me. I'll take questions whenever y'all are ready.
She waits a couple of moments, then sees a Japanese reporter in the back raise his hand. She nods at him, and he puts out a question in Japanese, one her interpreter, sitting next to her, tells her in English.
Samantha: I have a great deal of respect for Kayla Richards. I know she's been a little bit of a pill about this on social media, but I don't disrespect her ability in the least. Next question?
Another reporter rattles off a question in Japanese. Sam listens to the interpretation.
Samantha: Yes, I fully intend on walking out of this arena tonight as the G-1 Women's Champion. I might respect Kayla, but that doesn't mean I'm going to lay down for her. I've beaten her before, more than once, and I'll do it again tonight.
An American-looking reporter raises his hand, and as she nods, asks his question.
American: Samantha, Joel Woods, Underground Observer. Rumor has it you have an absolutely brutal weekend, starting tonight. Is there truth to it?
Samantha: It's not a rumor. I face Kayla tonight, and as soon as I get backstage again, I'm flying back to the States, Las Vegas specifically, for a match with Sierra Williams at WWH's Wrestlemania. As soon as that match ends, I'm back in the plane on an express flight to New York City, where I face Tiffany Prada for the Honor Wrestling Championship.
American: Follow up. How do you intend on pulling this off?
Samantha: My private plane at the airport. I will add, though, the good folks with Honor have scheduled two intermissions during that event to allow me time to fulfill my contract with WWH tomorrow night, and still have time to make it to NYC. I'm honored that they'd do that for me, just as I'm honored G-1 would put me into this match here tonight.
Another Japanese reporter raises his hand, and Sam nods as the translator relays his query to her.
Samantha: I do enjoy the hardcore or ultraviolent setting, but I'm a lot more than just a slinger of a good kendo stick or a steel chair. I trained under a man who was renowned all over the world for his technical proficiency, so I can do a lot more in the ring than just use weaponry. I'm looking forward to putting those skills on display in just a little while. One more question, as I do need to get ready.
Yet another Japanese reporter, this time a woman, puts her hand in the air enthusiastically. Sam smiles at her and nods, then gets the translation.
Samantha: Aww...you flatter me! But, seriously, I did spend some time here early in my career training. This is just my second match in a long, long time here in Japan, and I've missed it so much. The fans here are so different from the fans in America, and so knowledgeable. I love being here. To answer your question more directly, yes, I do believe myself to be one of the top wrestlers in the world, male or female. I hope to prove all that to you tonight.
Sam smiles and waves for the popping cameras, then stands and walks out of the interview room.
